Welcome to Chubby Buns food.
We bring together the spectacular flavours, freshness and fragrances of Malaysian cooking in our mouth-watering curries and noodle laksas.

Our cuisine is comprised of the freshest ingredients and packs big south east Asian flavours: from delicate aromatics such as lemongrass, ginger and kaffir lime leaves to punchy Indian spices and tangy tamarind, by way of sweet cinnamon and star anise. All tied together by creamy coconut milk.

Who or what is Chubby Buns...?
Hi. I'm Baba, and along with my partner Megan, I run a Malaysian food pop-up in and around Southampton.
​
The derivation of the name Chubby Buns is a funny story. Despite being born and bred in the UK, my dad hails from the brilliant island of Penang, Malaysia - and I've always identified somewhat with that side of my heritage.
​
So it was always something of a disappointment that my sister was the only sibling to have been given a Chinese name. With this in mind, and with the help of Google, I decided to dabble in a bit of personal nomenclature.
​
I wanted a strong name that sounded hard, basically. So I settled on Seng Xiaobo, which, I proudly (and misguidedly) believed, meant 'doughty warrior'. So far, so hard. It was only when I ran it by my Chinese family on my next visit to Malaysia that I learned it meant something quite different; something much less cool: Chubby Buns.

And unfortunately for me, as the years go by, it's a name which becomes ever more apt...
